PDL-Nordeste
The road bike tour starts in the centre of Ponta Delgada, following the coastline eastwards. Go along the Avenida Infante D. Henrique, then turn right at the Moaçor building, and follow the Avenida do Mar cycle-path. Keep straight on along the Pópulo main road, turning right onto the Rua da Rocha Quebrada (at km 6,2), continuing on the Atalhada main road until you reach the town of Lagoa. After 8,1 km, turn left into Rua Manuel Correia Maia, and at the top, turn right into Rua Francisco Amaral Almeida. Keep straight ahead, turning left towards the roundabout. Take the second exit at the roundabout, go under the viaduct and turn right, climbing up towards the parish of Cabouco. Continue straight ahead to the industrial zone of Chã do Rego de Água, and then go down towards Stª Bárbara, reducing speed on the descent. Turn right at the crossroads, following the EN1-1. At km 20,7, turn right along the old road. We recommend you stop at the Coroa da Mata vantage point (km 24,5) and again at the Stª Iria vantage point (km 26). Keep on going along the EN1-1 until you reach the Gorreana Tea Factory (km 32,8), where you can take the opportunity to taste the different types of teas produced there. Turn left at the exit and continue straight ahead until km 33,7, where you turn right, following the E1-1 over the viaduct, crossing the parishes of Lomba da Maia, Ribeira Funda and Fenais da Ajuda, and entering the district of Nordeste when you reach the parish of Salga. We suggest a stop at km 53,6, at the picnic park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões. Then continue on, beginning a steep descent at km 61,5, where you should reduce speed, followed by a very steep climb, with a wonderful view from the local vantage point at the top, at km 63,1. At km 71 you come to another steep descent, so reduce speed again, before climbing back up along the last stretch of the route to the entrance to the town of Nordeste. The trail ends in the centre of Nordeste, next to the garden, town hall and church. You will find various eating places and shops in the town centre.
