Volta à Ilha Terceira

Route Description

The road bike route begins in the Praça Velha square in the centre of Ángra do Heroísmo, in front of the Town Hall. Go west, along the Avenida Tenente Coronel Agostinho, and continue west at the roundabout, along the Rua Diogo Teide. Go through São Mateus da Calheta and then Cinco Ribeiras. Continue along the regional highway, passing through Stª Bárbara, Doze Ribeiras and Serreata. You can stop at the vantage point at the Raminho headland, where not only can you observe the coast of Terceira but also the other islands in the central group: Graciosa (to the right), São Jorge, Pico and Faial (further to the left). Continue on through Raminho, Altares and Biscoitos. At the latter, we recommend a visit to the wine museum and the bathing zone. After leaving Biscoitos, continue on through Quatro Ribeiras, Agualva, Vila Nova and Lajes. After passing Lajes Airport, keep straight ahead towards Praia da Vitória, where you can stop to enjoy the pale sandy beach, with its crystal clear waters. Then resume the tour, going on to Cabo da Praia, followed by the picturesque parish of Porto Martins. Follow the coastline, passing through Ponta das Contendas, Baia da Salga and the parish of Porto Judeu, and then begin the climb up through the parish of Feteira following the regional highway, and then make your way back to the historical centre of Ángra do Heroísmo.
